The Science Ambassadors are proud to announce that they were awarded the Challenged Youth Program from the Lassen Park Foundation.
The Lassen Park Foundation strives to fund camping trips for challenged kids. Outdoor experiences away from their stressed lives can be extremely rewarding for these children. The simple act of experiencing the beauty of a national park, camping, hiking and generally enjoying our great natural resources often has life-altering impact on young people.This year, the Lassen Park Foundation’s challenged youth program awarded a record number of grants. At a recent Board of Directors meeting, approval was granted to seventeen groups requesting funding in order to facilitate their camping trips. These groups serve young people who would not ordinarily have a chance to experience camping. Schools suffering from lack of funding, group homes, foster care agencies, mentoring groups and urban youth were among the applicants for grants from the Lassen Park Foundation. Chairman John Koeberer said that the Foundation is committed to sharing the benefits of a national park experience with young people. “Most of the Directors have a strong connection to this park and enjoyed it when they were young too—we think that providing funding for this initiative is one of the most important things we can do for the next generation.”
