Lassen Snowshoe January 2011


On January 27th 2011 the Science Ambassadors went on their first trip as a club. This trip was a guided snowshoe along the park road to the Sulfur Works hydothermal area.   




 When we arrived at the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center. The Science Ambassadors where fitted with snowshoes and given a quick overview of the park. 



Steve Zackary is the Educational Director at Lassen National. Steve guided the group along the park road towards the Sulfur Works.

 Along the we Steve educated us on the hazards of traveling in any winter environment. The group practice avalanche safety as we made our way along the park road.

 When we reached the Sulfur works Steve educated us on the parks network of geothermal areas. He also taught the group about the winter ecology of the park.

After we returned to the visitors station. The group had lunch and wrote in their nature journals. The trip ended in an epic snowball fight. The teachers took quit a beating.
