Warner Valley Lassen National Park
On October 14th 2011 the Science Ambassador went for a two day overnight camping trip to Warner Valley. Warner Valley is located in Lassen National Park. This area provides a great jumping off point to witnessing some of the parks best geothermal areas.
After setting up camp and enjoying lunch the Science Ambassadors headed out and hiked to Devils Kitchen. The hike to Devils is a 4.2 mile hike. Devils Kitchen is the second largest hydro-thermal area in the park.
When you arrive at Devils Kitchen the hike loops you through a foreign landscape of mud pots steam vents and boiling spring. The students enjoyed a spa treatment of sulfur steam.
On the second day the Science Ambassadors hiked to Terminal Geyser. On the way we stopped to explore boiling lake. The student where amazed at the mud pots located on the southwest shore of the lake and the boiling spring vents.
Arriving at Terminal Geyser students found the large fumarole. The power and sound of the vent was quit exciting.
Being able to lake students out on trips like this is very rewarding. This group of Science Ambassadors where able to see first hand the beauty and power of Lassen National Park
